Berau Regency's town of Tanjung Redeb sits on the Segah and Kelay rivers in northeastern East Kalimantan, and is the jumping-off point most travelers use before heading out to the Derawan Islands' diving and snorkeling sites -- Derawan, Maratua, Kakaban, and Sangalaki. Hotels here cluster in the compact town center, a short drive from both Kalimarau Airport and the port used for boat transfers to Derawan. Tanjung Redeb itself is a modest riverside trading town rather than a resort destination in its own right, so its hotels serve primarily as an overnight stop before or after the islands.
