Last updated August 4, 2026

Varel Singapore, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, is a brand-new 128-room boutique property that opened in mid-April 2026 on the former Selegie Centre site, at the crossroads of Selegie Road and Mount Sophia. Designed by architecture firm FDAT, the hotel draws on the childhood memories of its owner, who grew up in Selegie, reinterpreting heritage details such as louvred windows, metal gates and chendol-inspired patterns through a contemporary lens; sky terraces and guestroom balconies are conceived as suspended gardens. Rooms come in light and dark palettes across seven categories up to the Varel Suite, with roughly 90% offering city views from private balconies. Facilities include an eighth-floor rooftop infinity pool, a fitness centre, and four food-and-beverage venues: Hathaway Autograph (all-day Southeast Asian and British-influenced dining and breakfast), Vernacular Coffee (specialty coffee and in-house roasting), Saga Bar (cocktail lounge) and a rooftop pool bar. A signature scent, Chai Noir, was created with Maison 21G. As a hotel only months old, it has very few independent guest reviews and no established TripAdvisor aggregate rating yet; early write-ups from travel media and points bloggers are positive on design, service and value, while noting compact room sizes and typical new-opening teething issues.
